Moon Dance NEW 2 Fabric Applique Quilt Pattern

Moon Dance 2 Fabric Applique Quilt PatternOne of the questions I was asked about when I vend at a show was: "I see you have a sun pattern where is the moon?"

This got me thinking.. This is Moon Dance and I designed it so it can be made all on it's own or you can create what I like to call the Celestial Eclipse Quilt by adding Sunshine. You can create a single quilt using 2 of the 2 Fabric Applique Patterns. I think this would be the perfect shower gift or for a child's room.

This pattern has is very special to me because I was able to design a pattern to coordinate with a pattern designed by Nancy Lee Chong. As most of you know Nancy is a friend of mine and she is the reason I learned needleturn and Hawaiian Quilting. It has been about 3 1/2 years since my husband and I became the owners of Pacific Rim Quilt Company and since then I have had some big shoes to fill stepping into such a well known and respected company. I finally feel like I am hitting my stride and able to bring some of me into the company. I have been able to do this with the day to day operation but even more important to me is the designing. Between quilting and designing this is the main reasons I wanted to become the owner. I guess Moon Dance is a symbol of combining the previous with the current Pacific Rim Quilt Company.

Dragonflies in Flight for LaVeta Colorado

I hope all of you enjoyed your 4th of July.

Through the end of June I am going to be donating $2.00 from each Dragonflies in Flight 2 Fabric Applique Pattern that I sell to the LaVeta Fire District. I chose the Dragonflies in Flight 2 Fabric Applique Pattern because there are numerous Dragonflies that live in the area. Here are a few photos of them. These photos were taken by Polly Neldner of LaVeta Colorado.

You may be wondering why I want to do this, I have a strong family connection to this place. In 1995 my parents built a log home in the mountains between LaVeta and Cuchara in Southern Colorado

Needleturn Applique lessons at home

Dragonflies in Flight 2 fabric applique quilt pattern

We all lead busy lives. It is difficult to carve out time to take a quilting class, even when you have a good teacher in your area. Taking a class has its own challenges...being able to see what the teacher is doing, and then remembering what you learned days, weeks, or even years later. What's the solution? A DVD, of course. If your goal is to learn needleturn applique, or to improve your techniques we recommend our DVD: 2 Fabric Applique Quilts with Nancy Lee Chong. Why a DVD? It can be played over and over again while you practice your techniques; READ MORE >

I want a Smaller, No a Larger Quilt

We are frequently asked if a wall-hanging pattern can be enlarged for a bed quilt. Or, if a bed quilt pattern can be reduced to make a wall-hanging. Here are our thoughts and suggestions.
In general, we design quilt patterns to be a specific size. We fill the available space with motifs and elements that are proportioned to that size. For a large quilt we can fill the space with more flowers, leaves or whatever the design elements are to create a pleasing arrangement that is typically more intricate than a smaller design. It is generally best to choose a pattern that you like from the patterns available in that size range. We believe you will be happier with the outcome.
If you want to make a small quilt larger: first consider these things:

APPLIQUE

Machine Applique

To begin, let's list the reasons we like to applique by hand:

  • Portable, around the house or around the world.
  • Relaxing, even therapeutic.
  • Can engage in conversation with friends and family while quietly stitching, anywhere.
  • Can keep stitching when the power goes out.
  • Prefer the look and feel.
Now let's list the reasons for machine applique:

Reader Question

Hibiscus 2 Fabric Applique Quilt Pattern

Are 2 Fabric Applique quilts reverse applique?

This seems to be a question that is asked often. Everyone has their own interpretation of this so I thought I would share ours:

There really is no such thing as reverse applique for you, the quiltmaker. You are always cutting on the cutting line of the top fabric, turning under the raw edge and stitching the top fabric to a background fabric. All applique is done exactly this way.

Marking on Dark or Patterned Fabric

It is easy to trace a 2 Fabric Applique Quilt pattern on a light applique fabric by just placing the fabric on the pattern and tracing the cutting lines. But what if your applique fabric is too dark to see the pattern lines, even if placed on a light box? This could definitely be a problem with the new quilts we are introducing you to this month. What to do??
